Must it rain every Osim Triathlon?
Saturday, 12 July 2008
Right now, more than anything, there is only one thought in my mind.
Ow.
Being sunburnt is horrendously painful.
My red and peeling skin aside, I went for the OSIM TRIATHLON 2008 as a Safety Canoeist!
This makes it my third time as a safety canoeist, which by all accounts, is a very cushy job.
You get to float around for the entire morning, slacking and getting a nice tan(or too much).
Food is provided.[ I got to eat packeted Bee Hoon=)]
Good Pay[$30]
Free Shirt
And the best thing is kayaking!!!!!

I can't believe how much I missed kayaking.
I think it was the first time this year I went, having no time earlier due to Hockey season and exams.
The feeling of kayaking is incredible.
Close your eyes. You rock slowly to and fro on the sea. The scent of the sea lingers. The sun teases you with its warm rays. You can vaguely hear the sound of people shouting, laughing and generally just enjoying themselves by the beach.
Its a great feeling.
Anyway, today was a great day. I went with Bob, Jono, Ben Neo, Ming and Al. We talked alot of crap and bullshitted each other mostly. Caught up on each other's lives. Bonded again.
I love meeting up with brothers.
For the first few races(the kid races), I was paired up with Bob. While we watched little kids swim a pathetic 200m(4 laps) loop around the breakwater, Bob basically pointed out the other safety canoeists, commenting on the girls on the kayak next to us. Haha. It was an intellectual discussion.
The lifesavers this time were from ACJC lifesaving. The lifesavers didn't do much though. The brunt of the work was borne by us canoeists and the jetskiers.
I ended up with Ming for the remaining races. I was quite happy when I got to rescue people.
I think we managed to rescue 3 people today. Quite a good haul. Gives you a sense of accomplishment. (Who needs CCA points when you know you've saved a life?)
The downside to the day was the sunburn.
Stuck on the water for about 5 hours, my skin withered up and started to smoke.
Nobody laugh at my peeling skin on monday. And for the love of god, please don't touch my arm.
I'm looking forward to eating Island Creamery again though. If my sunburn hurts too bad I can probably dump ice cream on my arm and face. Caramel is godly.
