The significance of 75 degrees
Thursday, 24 July 2008
So today I skipped school and headed down to the commando camp.
Upon just REACHING the gate, you're met with several pissed-off, weathered, commandoes who look like they could rip your neck off with their bare hands. Wow.
A whole bunch of guys are present for the assesment. Even among them, the hooligans look uncomfortably silent. I guess even they feel intimidated.
We pass through the iron-barred rotating gate(like some torture device) and head in to the camp.
All around us, half-naked men with chiseled abs sprint past at a furious pace, shouting vicious war cries at the same time. Hail the mighty commando.
After an initial briefing, I found myself in the same detail as two of my old Catholic High friends, Zhao Rong(NCC, 3/4+4/2) and Shao Ming(Outdoor Adventure Leader). An unexpected but ultimately welcome surprise. We bullshitted alot and kept each other company, especially since my handphone was quiet that morning.
The first station was the IQ test. I took one look at the OAS and swore under my breath.
The OAS had enough space for 312 MCQs.
And we were given 3 sheets.
I took a IQ test, personality test and a stress-management test.
Together they came upwards of 350 questions. Brain dead.
After lunch(economical mixed rice), we did a so-called medical examination that took two minutes.
Medical Examiner: Is there anything wrong with you?
Me: No
ME: Any asthma or broken bones?
Me: No
ME: NEXT!!!!!
At that point, I noticed that a requsite for being a commando was both eyes under 300 degrees.
BAH. My left eye is 375 whilst my right is 175.
I proceeded to try my best at the next station, the physical fitness assesment.
Although I haven't trained in awhile, I managed to knock out 250cm for the standing broad jump. Just for that, I felt pretty satisfied.
The last stage was the interview.
I think I did quite well during that portion, impressing the interviewer.
When I walked away, Zhao Rong told me that the interviewer was talking to another commando whilst nodding towards me.
Wooo. I aced the interview.
The day ended thus, and I left the camp at 1410.
Haiz. If not for my left eye, I would be a confirmed commando.
Right now, I know I'm still a possible candidate.
Just that 75 degrees.
I'll find out in December just how much 75 degrees is worth.
Oh, and given the craze over The Dark Knight recently, here's batman.
